AstraGene UV/Vis Spectrophotometer (as of Nov 2011)
Norton Scientific is the exclusive North American distributor of AstraGene.
The AstraGene UV/Vis Spectrophotometer has been developed for the routine laboratory analysis of nucleic acids and proteins. With its specially developed “through-the-tip” measurement technology, precious samples will never leave the pipette tip – speeding up analysis and protecting samples. Its benefits include:
- Easy sample handling
- Just 2µl sample volume
- No carry-over
- No contamination
- No cleaning required
- Re-use or recovery of the sample
- Budget or RNAse free tips
- Same procedure for all samples
- No 6-month maintenance or alignment schedule since there are no moving parts
Using the latest fibre-optic coupled CCD Array spectrophotometer, no sample chamber, pedestal or cover is required. The long life xenon light source and detector are effectively brought right up to your pipette tip. No other analysis method is quicker or easier.

AstraGene UV/Vis
The AstraGene’s special sample holder enables measurements to be taken straight through the pipette tip on sample volumes as small as 2µl. Complex sampling routines are avoided while sample integrity and user safety are maintained; samples can even be recovered after measurement for further analysis or processing. The AstraGene spectrophotometer’s intuitive software and unique sample handling makes measurement of both DNA and RNA and proteins a simple and rapid procedure.
The new AstraGene iCF (released in late 2011) has been optimized for Nucleic Acids. Specially developed Intelligent Composite Filters (iCF) separate the spectrum of the nucleic acid sample from the background spectrum, ensuring smooth curves and enhanced reproducibility of results. This novel approach brings all the advantages of measuring an exposed, sacrificial drop, to a sample that remains protected in the pipette tip and is always available for 100% recovery. The DNA/RNA peak at 260nm has a natural bandwidth (NBW) of 47nm. For precise measurement at an absorbance peak, the spectrophotometer must have a spectral bandwidth (SBW) less than one tenth of the NBW of the compound being measured. The AstraGene iCF has a 3nm SBW thus it meets this requirement and so ensures accurate results with optimum energy levels.
